The actions feature allows you to do more than just display an alert. It allows you to send the data to another application, or to make this application visible, or to somehow draw your attention to this alert. The default, when you double click on an alert is to send the alert to somewhere else. This can be to another program. Usually this is to a trading application. However it can be to something as simple as notepad. The first time you double click on an alert, it brings up the setup external linking window. Simply drag the crosshairs into the window that you want to link up to. Close or minimize this window when you are done. Now, whenever I see an interesting alert, I can record it for later. If I was running a trading application at this time, I could immediately see a chart or place a trade as soon as I double click. In this example, the screen is too small for me to show a trading application. Normally, you could rearrange the alerts windows to fit around the windows in your trading application. Use the actions menu to bring up the specific actions for a window. Global actions are the defaults for the entire application. Beep on each alert will let you know when you have an alert in a window. In this case, it's not very useful because the window gets a lot of alerts. However, if I attach it to a window like one of these, then I can minimize the window and I will know when there is an alert. We can also send every symbol to the linked windows not just when I double click. Be careful with this option. If you have a lot of data, that can overwhelm the window that you are sending things to. This works well with notepad, which is just recording the data. However, for a trading program, you can very quickly overwhelm your system. Show alert window is also useful for windows which don't get a lot of alerts. You just minimize the window and it reappears as soon as you have data. Again, this is really designed for windows like these which don't get a lot of data. It's not as meaningful for windows like this one, which are constantly getting alerts. Use this button to bring up the settings for the default windows. Unless you set a window to use specific settings, it will use these settings. Hit this button to set up the linking to other windows. This window will automatically come up when there is a problem. But you can change it at any time.
