One of the most common questions we get on the OddsMaker is how many days can I look at? That depends on several things. We store approximately 30 trading days of data. This can vary sometimes. For example, Presidents Day was a holiday for US markets. You cannot use the OddsMaker on today’s data until late in the evening. Let’s start with a simple example. Lets start with intraday trading. We want to know how much data is available, so let’s ask for a lot. This doesn’t hurt anything. In fact, this is the easiest and best way to see exactly what data is available on the server. Look at these results. Notice that we have twenty-eight days of results. Notice that there are no results for February 16th. The OddsMaker will skip holidays. Use the location field to tell Trade-Ideas which holidays to skip. If we were trading Canadian stocks, we would have had results today. Just because Trade-Ideas has data doesnt mean that you have to use it. Sometimes you want to avoid certain events. For example, maybe you want to try your strategy before and after the economic stimulus package was signed into law ie 2-17, to see if that made any difference. Now I’m only looking at days after that event. The summary only contains information for these days. Now let’s look at what happened before this event. Let me duplicate the window, so I can compare the two. Now let’s look at the bottom of the OddsMaker report to verify that I did this correctly. If I made a mistake it would be easy enough to run the OddsMaker again and make a small correction. But I got it right, so lets compare the results. For this strategy you can clearly see the signing of the economic stimulous had little effect on the success of this strategy.
